Splits

The time between two consecutive shots, measured by sound in dry fire. Splits show how well you run the gun once it is up: recovery, transitions from target to target, and how fast you press again.

A split is the clock between one shot and the next, and it is where a lot of hidden time lives. Your first shot can be fast while your splits leak seconds on every recovery, transition, and reload. Because splits are pure gun handling, they respond quickly to focused dry fire: a smoother grip and a cleaner reload show up as tenths shaved off the gap. Measuring them by sound at home turns a vague feeling of getting smoother into a number you can actually move.
